Blaze Farm — Blaze Rods for Brewing & The End on DonutSMP
Blaze Rods are non-negotiable — you need them for brewing, reaching the End, and crafting Fire Charges and End Rods. A spawner-based Blaze farm provides a reliable, renewable source.
Materials Needed
- • Fireproof blocks (Nether Bricks, Cobblestone, Blackstone)
- • Hoppers and chests
- • Sticky Pistons (optional, for pusher design)
- • Redstone components (optional)
- • Wither Roses (optional, for passive killing)
- • Lots of building blocks for walling off the area
1. Finding a Blaze Spawner
Blaze Spawners are found on small platforms in Nether Fortresses, usually near the external balcony sections. Nether Fortresses generate in strips along the Z-axis — travel East/West to find them.
Once found, light up the area temporarily to prevent additional Blaze spawns while building.
2. Simple Fall Damage Design
1. Enclose the spawner room completely (Blazes can shoot fireballs that ignore walls if they see you) 2. Create a 9×9 enclosed room around the spawner 3. Leave the floor open to a funnel that leads Blazes into a 1×1 drop shaft 4. Build a 20+ block drop (Blazes have 20 HP — a fall of 20 blocks does 19 damage) 5. At the bottom, create a kill slot where you can melee Blazes at 1 HP 6. Hoppers below collect Blaze Rods
**Important**: Blazes spawn in a 9×3×9 area around the spawner. Cover all possible spawn points and guide them to the drop.
3. Wither Rose Design (Automated)
For fully automatic farms: 1. Obtain Wither Roses (spawn the Wither near passive mobs — each killed mob drops a Wither Rose) 2. Place Wither Roses on the floor of the spawner room 3. Blazes spawn and take Wither damage (1 HP/second), eventually dying 4. Hoppers below collect the Blaze Rods
This is fully automatic but doesn't give XP since the player doesn't get the kill.
4. Platform Clearing
For maximum efficiency, block off all other spawning spaces in the Nether Fortress within 128 blocks of the spawner. This forces all mob spawns to use your spawner area.
Slab the tops of all walkways, block off corridors, and light up everything. This can dramatically increase spawn rates.
5. Safety Notes
- Blazes shoot fireballs that set you on fire. Wear Fire Protection armor. - Use fireproof blocks — wood or wool will burn. - A Fire Resistance potion makes the building process trivial. - Don't break the spawner accidentally! Place it behind glass if worried. - Keep the spawner chunk loaded (be within simulation distance) for the farm to work.
