Hard 300–500 Gold Ingots per hour

Zombie Piglin Gold Farm — Mass Gold Production on DonutSMP

Gold is essential for Golden Carrots, Powered Rails, Piglin Bartering, and Netherite. A Zombie Piglin farm on the Nether roof produces staggering quantities — thousands of gold nuggets per hour.

Materials Needed

  • Lots of building blocks (cobblestone or similar)
  • Magma blocks or Turtle eggs (for aggro)
  • Hoppers and chests
  • Water buckets (if Overworld-based design)
  • Obsidian (for Nether portals, if portal-based)
  • Trident with Channeling (optional for charged creeper)
  • Lava buckets
  • Scaffolding or building blocks for Nether roof access

1. Why the Nether Roof?

Zombie Piglins spawn naturally throughout the Nether. By building on top of the Nether roof (Y=128+), the only valid spawning spaces in the game's spawn checks are your platforms. This concentrates all mob spawns into your farm, dramatically increasing rates.

To access the Nether roof, use an Ender Pearl through the bedrock ceiling (throw while standing in a 2-high space at Y=127) or use a ladder/trapdoor method.

2. Building Spawning Platforms

Create large flat platforms 2 blocks tall (solid floor, 2 blocks of air, then solid ceiling to limit spawning to your platforms). Build multiple layers 4 blocks apart vertically for maximum rates.

Each platform should be at least 24 blocks from the AFK spot (mobs don't spawn within 24 blocks) and within 128 blocks (mobs beyond this instantly despawn).

Use magma blocks as the floor — Zombie Piglins walk toward and stand on them, taking passive damage. This also serves as aggro bait.

3. Funneling Mobs to the Kill Chamber

Turtle eggs placed in the center of a platform attract all Zombie Piglins (they try to stomp turtle eggs). Place eggs on a pressure plate or in a channel that leads to a drop shaft.

Alternatively, use trapdoors at the edges of platforms so piglins walk off thinking they can fit through. Water cannot be used in the Nether, so rely on gravity and mob pathfinding.

Funnel everything to a central drop shaft — a 24+ block drop brings piglins to 1 HP for easy one-hit kills (for XP) or use entity cramming / lava for full automation.

4. Collection System

At the bottom of the drop shaft, place hoppers connected to chests. If using player kills for Looting III bonus, stand at the kill point and sweep attack.

For fully automatic: create an entity cramming system (push 25+ piglins into a 1×1 space with water or pistons) or use lava to kill them. Note: fire/lava kills don't benefit from Looting.

Collect Gold Nuggets, Rotten Flesh, Gold Ingots (rare), and Gold Swords (smelt for nuggets).

5. AFK Setup

Stand at the center of your farm, at least 24 blocks from the nearest spawning platform. Ensure you're within 128 blocks of all platforms.

On DonutSMP, check AFK rules and use the designated AFK area if required. Some servers have AFK timers — use an anti-AFK mechanism if allowed.

6. Rates and Tips

- A well-built Nether roof farm with 4+ spawning layers produces 300-500+ gold ingots per hour - Smelt golden swords in a super-smelter for extra nuggets + XP - This farm also produces massive amounts of Rotten Flesh (trade to Cleric Villagers for emeralds) - Combine with an auto-crafter to convert nuggets to ingots to blocks automatically - The XP from manual kills rivals an Enderman farm
