Mob Spawner XP Farm — Easy XP from Dungeons on DonutSMP

Found a dungeon with a mob spawner? Turn it into a reliable XP farm. Skeleton and Zombie spawners are especially valuable — easy to set up and produce consistent XP and drops.

Materials Needed

  • Water buckets (2)
  • Building blocks
  • Hoppers and chests
  • Slabs (for spawn control)
  • Signs (for water stops)
  • Torches (to temporarily disable spawner)

1. Finding a Spawner

Dungeon spawners are found in small cobblestone/mossy cobblestone rooms underground. Listen for many mob sounds concentrated in one area while mining. They contain a single Mob Spawner (usually Zombie, Skeleton, or Spider) and 1-2 chests.

**Do not break the spawner!** It cannot be replaced or picked up.

2. Setting Up the Kill Chamber

1. Light up the spawner room with Torches to temporarily stop spawns 2. Clear out the room to a 9×9×5 area (spawner at center, 4 blocks in each direction) 3. Place Water at one corner to create a flow that pushes mobs to the opposite corner 4. At the collection corner, create a 1-wide channel that leads to a drop shaft 5. Build a 22-block drop (for Zombies/Skeletons; adjust for Spiders) — this brings mobs to half a heart 6. At the bottom, leave a 1-block-wide slit so you can hit mob feet with your sword 7. Place Hoppers under the kill area to collect drops into chests

3. Water Flow Pattern

Water flows 8 blocks. For a 9-wide room: - Place water sources along one wall - The water pushes mobs 8 blocks to the opposite wall - At the opposite wall, dig a 1-wide channel along the wall - Place water at one end of this channel to push mobs to a corner - The corner leads to the drop shaft

This creates an L-shaped water flow that concentrates all spawned mobs into one point.

4. AFK Spot

Spawners activate when a player is within 16 blocks. Build your AFK/kill spot within 16 blocks of the spawner but positioned at the bottom of the drop shaft.

For best rates, stay within 16 blocks horizontally and vertically of the spawner. Build the drop shaft straight down from the spawner room to minimize distance.

5. Skeleton vs Zombie Tips

**Skeleton Spawner** (best): Drops Bones (→ Bone Meal), Arrows, Bows, and occasionally armor. The bones alone make this farm worthwhile for crop acceleration.

**Zombie Spawner** (good): Drops Rotten Flesh (trade to Clerics for emeralds), Iron Ingots (rare), Carrots (rare), Potatoes (rare). Larger hitbox makes them easier to hit.

**Spider Spawner** (decent): Drops String and Spider Eyes. Harder to contain due to wall climbing — use glass or waterlogged blocks to prevent climbing.
