Slime Farm — Slime Balls & Sticky Pistons on DonutSMP
Sticky Pistons and Slime Blocks power almost every advanced redstone build — from flying machines to auto farms. A Slime farm in a Slime chunk ensures you always have Slime Balls.
Materials Needed
- • Your world seed (to find Slime chunks)
- • Iron Golems or other aggro mobs (optional)
- • Magma blocks
- • Hoppers and chests
- • Lots of building blocks
- • Water buckets
- • Torches or other light sources
- • Fences (for iron golem containment)
1. Finding Slime Chunks
Slimes spawn in specific "Slime chunks" below Y=40. Use an online tool (like chunkbase.com) with your world seed to find Slime chunks near your base.
Alternatively, Slimes spawn in Swamp biomes at night on the surface (between Y=50 and Y=70) when the moon is 75%+ full. This is less reliable but doesn't require seed knowledge.
2. Digging Out the Farm
1. Find 1-4 adjacent Slime chunks using a seed mapper 2. Dig out a large area: the full 16×16 of each chunk, from Y=6 to Y=39 3. Build spawning platforms every 2.5 blocks vertically (3-block gap for large Slimes) 4. Light up every platform with Torches — Slimes spawn regardless of light level in Slime chunks, but other mobs don't 5. This gives you 10+ spawning layers per chunk
3. Mob Aggro and Funneling
Slimes pathfind toward players and Iron Golems: - Place Iron Golems in cages at the edges of platforms to attract Slimes - Slimes walk toward the Golems and fall off the platform edges - Water streams on lower levels push Slimes toward a central collection point - Magma Blocks at the bottom kill Slimes and the drops fall into Hoppers below
Alternatively, carve channels in each platform that lead to a central drop shaft.
4. Collection and Sorting
Slimes split into smaller Slimes when killed: - Large → 2-4 Medium - Medium → 2-4 Small - Small → 0-2 Slime Balls
They need to go through the kill mechanism multiple times, or you need a kill area large enough for all sizes. Magma blocks work well since all sizes walk on them and take damage.
Hoppers collect Slime Balls. The farm produces a LOT — plan storage accordingly.
5. Increasing Rates
- Clear ALL caves and spawning spaces within 128 blocks of your AFK spot — this is the biggest factor - More chunks = more platforms = more spawns - AFK at Y=30 for optimal distance to most platforms - A well-cleared 4-chunk farm can produce 400+ Slime Balls per hour - Use the Slime Balls for Sticky Pistons, Slime Blocks (flying machines, item sorters), Leads, and trading
