Witch Farm — Renewable Redstone & Glowstone on DonutSMP
Witches are the only renewable source of Redstone and Glowstone — two critical items. A Witch farm built at a Swamp Hut produces these plus bottles, sticks, and sugar automatically.

- • Cats (optional, not effective on Witches)
1. Finding a Witch Hut
Witch Huts spawn in Swamp biomes. They're small wooden huts on stilts with a Witch inside. The key isn't the hut itself but the 7×7 bounding box that forces only Witch spawns — this box persists even if you demolish the hut.
Use an online seed mapper to locate the nearest Witch Hut and its exact bounding box coordinates.
2. Building the Farm
The core principle: within the Witch Hut bounding box, only Witches can spawn. Build spawning platforms inside this box:
1. Clear the original hut 2. Build 3-4 spawning platforms within the bounding box (check exact coords for your seed) 3. Each platform needs water to push Witches off the edge to a drop shaft 4. Build a 30-block drop shaft (Witches have 26 HP and can heal with potions — the drop must be lethal) 5. At the bottom, collect drops with hoppers
3. Perimeter and Spawn Proofing
The farm's rates depend entirely on mob cap management. All spawning spaces within 128 blocks of your AFK spot must be eliminated except the farm platforms.
This typically means: - Slab all surfaces within 128 blocks - Fill or light all caves - Drain nearby water (drowned can take mob cap)
This is the hardest part but essential for good rates.
4. Drop Collection
Witches drop: - Redstone Dust (the only renewable source!) - Glowstone Dust - Sugar - Sticks - Spider Eyes - Glass Bottles - Gunpowder
All drops are useful. Sort with a hopper item sorter into separate chests.
5. Is It Worth It?
If you need renewable Redstone or Glowstone, this is the only farm that provides it. The build effort is significant (perimeter clearing takes time), but the result is a permanent source of these critical items.
For DonutSMP, consider whether the time investment makes sense for your playstyle. If you primarily need Redstone, mining at Y=-59 with Fortune III is very efficient too.
